Welcome to Assumption Parish
“Assumption Parish”—
These are words we say with pride. A
pride in our past, in our present, and
most definitely in our future.
Assumption Parish boasts a colorful
history and our residents are happy to
recount tales of the Civil War,
plantation life, farming, sugar cane,
and on and on. We are also proud to
tell you about the “good life” here in
Assumption Parish.
We
are proud to boast of an antebellum
home in our parish just two miles
south of the town of Napoleonville. It
is the beautiful Madewood Plantation
House. This National Historic Landmark
on Bayou Lafourche is rich in history
and returns you to the gracious living
of the past. Overnight accommodations
and daily tours are available.
![[photo] [photo]](images/cec2.jpg) There are many interesting sights in our beautiful
parish of Assumption. Many lovely Catholic
Churches are located in the towns and villages in the parish
and Christ Episcopal Church stands as a monument to the history of the
Civil War and is located in the town of Napoleonville. Union soldiers
used this church as a stable during the war.
The
abundance of bayous, lakes, and oilfield canals makes Assumption Parish
a true “fisherman’s paradise”. For the hunter, there are are many square
miles of wooded and swampland.
Assumption has roots buried deep in the traditions of the past. This is
evident as you visit the towns and villages of this wonderful parish.
